We once again contributed to the construction of a UHPC footbridge.

CTVS has once again contributed to the construction of an unusual UHPC footbridge in Switzerland’s Valais canton, in collaboration with ELEMENT SA in Tafers.
The over 70-meter-long, 200-ton footbridge is made up of 23 prefabricated elements produced at the ELEMENT SA plant in Tafers.
A 650-ton crane was used for the final installation of the complete bridge, after the application of prestressing.
The structure is characterized by flared ends, which are obtained from non-developable surfaces.
This constraint makes the boilermaker’s work more demanding, since he can’t start from a flat sheet to form the mold, but has to assemble small elements.
For this project, we designed and manufactured 7 different molds/components.
The main features of the project :

  • Combined frame design for “contact” concreting
  • A major technical difficulty due to the presence of “undevelopable” surfaces
  • Highly demanding customer requirements for the quality of the concrete facing finish, enhanced by the characteristics of UHPC.

Béton Fibré Ultra Performant (BFUP) is a new concrete that can be used to produce thin, yet very strong, elements.
It can also be used to produce parts with more complex shapes, while offering greater strength thanks to its composition.
